ZIMSEC CALA (TASKS) SAMPLES

CALA EXAMPLES.

The implementation of Continuous Assessment Learning Areas  (CALA) is underway across the country as learners and teachers try to beat the first component submission deadlines  30 September 2021 for the form 4s and  6s, while the deadline for the grade 7s is 24 September 2021. Some students, teachers and parents might have no clue what CALA is all about, see the article here.

In this article, I  will focus on samples of tasks or CALA  assignments so that teachers, parents, students and guardians can have an idea of what the CALA tasks are all about. These examples were prepared by teachers from different schools( credit to them). It is important to note that a teacher can prepare his/her own CALA tasks from any part of the syllabus as long they meet the required standard (see below). It's not compulsory for instance, for all the Business Studies upper six students in Zimbabwe to have the same task, it varies from school to school since issues and problems faced by communities differ. However, the CALA tasks are submitted for moderation and standardisation. The issue is to make sure the CALA task is prepared to meet the required assessment criteria as outlined below.

CALA characteristics

1. Research-Based

2. Learners apply knowledge concepts and lean skills (eg teamwork., analytical thinking., written and verbal communication skills etc)

3. Learners generate knowledge

4. Incorporate practical activities, data collection, through interviews, questionnaires, observations or experiments

5. Should show originality, reactivity and innovative

6. Promote learning area integration
